Response to Good Friday
Like most of you, I have been considering Good Friday, the crucifixion of Jesus. I attended a Good Friday service last night (April 18).
Jesus is the eternal Son of God, without beginning or end. It is hard to fathom that such majesty would become a human. That such majesty would then suffer and die on a cross. Why? Because in our helplessness, God loved us. With amazing grace, God saves us. He forgives our sin.
The cost of forgiveness is high. The judgement of God passes over us only because of the sacrifice of the spotless lamb of God, Jesus Christ. May you and I never forget this. We can never treat sin casually. O God, have mercy when we do.
Response to Good Friday? Do not merely repent of sin once a week in church or when you feel especially guilty. Repent of sin every day. Consider your daily lack of commitment to Jesus Christ and repent. Through Jesus you have been reconciled to God and have eternal hope. Jesus gave his life for you. We are now called to give our lives to Jesus. Every day heed the call of the Gospel: repent and believe!
